Session Summary

Unearthing and Disrupting White Supremacy in STEM Education

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

STEM Education purports to be a neutral content area, rendering invisible the white supremacy within which it operates. The primary aim of this session is to disturb and disrupt ongoing STEM policies and practices in education settings that perpetuate the ideology of white supremacy. We show this on a variety of facets in STEM, from technology to mathematics, and with a variety of methodological inquiries, from policy and media studies to empirical work in classrooms.
