Complex systems (CS) research is focused on making inferences about complex, dynamic, and emergent processes of education and learning. Improved understanding of situated educational phenomena from a CS perspective can help to improve teaching and learning practices, policy decision making, and understanding of social, emotional, and motivational processes. Recently, scholars have made use of CS research to highlight its impact on education research. Presenters in this symposium will describe and discuss their use of CS research to examine multilevel education phenomena. They will present forward thinking theoretical and methodological approaches about topics in learning and educational practice that highlight the unique insights generated from CS research methods.
