Abstract

In today’s hostile socio-political climate, youth, particularly students of color, face harsh realities and increases in violence. These realities demand that scholars work alongside schools and communities to disrupt systems and structures that continue to perpetuate systemic inequities. This session highlights the work of scholars at various institutions who are committed to critical scholarship that centers the voices of marginalized young people. This panel aims to counter dominant ideologies by placing marginalized communities at the center of our work. Our chief objective is to present various strategies, programs, and models that create innovative, grassroots community-based practices that engage marginalized youth in disrupting dominant hierarchies and ideologies as a means to demand equity, transformation, and ultimately liberation (Martin, 2019).
