Cultivating Homeplace: Centering Feminized Knowledge in Educational Spaces With Girls of Color

Abstract

This panel brings together Black, Asian, and Latina scholars engaging inquiries into Girl and Woman of Color literary collaboratives. Drawing from Chicana, Black, and Global South feminist perspectives, the papers in this symposium explore how knowledge is shaped at the intersections of race and gender, examining how Girls and Women of Color utilize cultured, raced, and gendered traditions of interdependence that reject the eurocentric value on independent learning. These traditions conceptualize the home as a site of collective learning and resistance (hooks, 1990), where Women and Girls of Color engage in healing and recovery, the sharing of stories and herstories, the teaching of strategies to combat daily oppression, the building of community, and the exchange of care.
