Alternative Pathways: Career and Technical Education Training and Predictors of Workforce Success

Abstract
There has been increased interest over the past decade in promoting career and technical education (CTE) in high school and beyond as it offers a clear, practical route from school to the workforce. However, many basic research questions remain unanswered, which leaves policymakers and stakeholders with limited information to promote CTE pathways. The goal of this symposium is to provide examples of CTE research being conducted from different perspectives. We will discuss the characteristics of people holding CTE jobs, the student and school factors related to success in CTE, the role of school counselors in helping students choose CTE paths, and CTE as a potential crime prevention mechanism.
