How Do We Discuss This? Facilitating Equity Literacy and Community Partnership via Discussion Formats

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

School/community equity conversations are often difficult to facilitate productively and enter into with multiple stakeholders. Yet if we are to address equity over the long term, we need concrete and actionable examples of how to facilitate productive discussions on sources of inequity with relevant stakeholders that are both sensitive to stakeholders’ needs, and appropriately provocative and effective for changing inequitable conditions. In other words, we need lots of great examples of how to facilitate equity literacy. Equity literacy seeks to recognize bias, respond to inequity immediately, redress inequalities in the long term, and seek actionable products to create and sustain equitable schools. This symposium offers three cross-site examples of researchers leveraging equity literacy discussion formats.
