Abstract

Recently, environmental educators and researchers have taken a position that eschews approaches in education, science, and engineering that separate nature and culture. The escalating crisis of climate change exacerbates the urgency of creating a fundamentally different approach to science, engineering, and environmental education. A recent STEM Teaching Tool Practice brief raises the importance of creating learning environments that foster ecological care, consider more-than-human inhabitants of ecosystems, support learners’ ecological identities, and nurture care for local ecosystems through learning experiences that foster multispecies relationships. In this structured poster session, we highlight 11 projects that aim to do just this. This panel invites exploration of the significance of fostering social-ecological care in our approaches to environmental and STEM education.
