Session Summary

Between the Panels: The Power and Possibilities of Co-Constructing Comics Research

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

The purpose of this proposed working group is to engage the breadth, intersections, and tensions of comics research in literacy education. A growing body of interdisciplinary scholarship has identified different aspects of comics as foci, including literary, semiotic, aesthetic, and educational, such as use-and-impact studies, and studies on comprehension and engagement, multimodal composing, and critical multimodal and multilingual meaning making. This collaborative session is designed to draw from each of these areas to identify consonances and dissonances, and to deepen presenters’ and audience members’ understandings of comics research across the educational landscape.
