Session Type: Symposium
This symposium examines the challenges and opportunities of community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) in Latinx communities as a way to transcend the institutional limitations placed on historically marginalized populations. We situate this symposium within the multiple ways in which researchers conducting CBPAR can engage in culturally attuned methodological approaches to address educational disparities experienced by Latinx youth and adults. The symposium exemplify four case studies aimed at addressing educational disparities. More specifically, these studies help validate and support community-based methodologies to foster university-community partnerships to address the needs of Latinx communities. In theme with the AERA 2020 conference, this symposium takes a deep look at the power and possibilities when researchers and organizational stakeholders collaborate.
