Abstract

Equity and inclusion is the means by which we can attain the common good in Catholic education, it is at the heart of the Catholic mission. Understanding what equity and inclusion truly requires and represents is the focus of the symposium.This session will examine six key areas of Catholic education and schooling in light of the Church’s commitment to the marginalized, with a particular focus on the best practices in education that respect the dignity of the whole person. Topics include: restorative practices as an alternative to punitive discipline, supporting undocumented persons, othering of historically underserved populations, the USCCB framework for secondary Catholic religious education in the context of culturally sustaining curriculum, special education and women in leadership.
