Why School Improvement in Secondary Education Is So Difficult? Learning About Improvement From Chilean High Schools

Fri, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The international literature shows that improving secondary schools is more difficult, reforms and programs have been more successful in improving primary than secondary schools, and there is less evidence about how to change and to improve secondary schools. During the last years the researchers of the symposium have developed studies to understand deeply how some Chilean secondary schools had improved sustainable. For this goal we have used several quantitative and qualitative methodologies, in particular advanced statistical analyzes and in-depth multiple case studies. In this context, the main objective of the symposium is to analyze the change and improvement processes of high schools, their differences with primary schools, and particularly why it is so difficult to improve in secondary education.
