Abstract

Earlier this year, the National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development report called for the explicit teaching of social, emotional, and cognitive skills to advance the field of SEL. The report also highlighted the urgency for new paradigms of research-to-practice partnerships, engaging all stakeholders in contributing to the understanding and use of data to drive social, emotional, and academic learning. In this session, researchers, working in partnership with students, teachers, and administrators, present initial findings from multi-year investigations to develop and validate a suite of SEL assessment tools and data resources: The School Climate Walkthrough, a Direct Assessment of Student Cognitive Emotion Regulation Skills, and new measures of Educator Well-Being and SEL Implementation Fidelity.
