Session Summary

Pedagogies of the Interior: Building Bridges From the Inside Out

Sun, April 19, 8:15 to 10:15am, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Guided by the notion that “equity starts with autobiography” (Watson, 2012), this symposium showcases how members of a purposeful research collective bridge the personal with the communal for the public good. As a group of scholars committed to holistic practices, we offer ourselves and our work up for scrutiny to better understand and unearth pedagogies of the interior that promote an educational praxis of the body, mind, and spirit. The various tools we have developed around self-care and resistance are made visible through evocative narrative and the interconnectivity between inner-harmony and outward-service. We regard our work as a humanizing contribution that will allow conference participants to create meaning as the authors of their own lives and agents of change.
