Collaboration Between Researchers and Organizational Stakeholders in an Age of Accountability

Abstract

This session interrogates the increasingly complex dynamics of collaboration between researchers and organizational stakeholders in an era of increased institutional accountability, divergent institutional review board (IRB) processes, and the variegated manifestations of neoliberal management in education. Each of the session’s papers is motivated by three common objectives: 1) to identify issues pertaining to data collection and analysis that arise as organizational stakeholders feel pressure to highlight positive results; 2) to depict the evolution of power dynamics between researchers and organizational stakeholders; and 3) to ascertain the difficulties in establishing and maintaining rapport and trust during research projects. This session also intends stimulate discussion about similar projects where researcher autonomy and integrity are equally threatened by scrutiny from a variety of stakeholders.
