Session Summary

Learning With Virtual and Augmented Reality: Examining the Theoretical, Technological, and Assessment Factors for Learning

Tue, April 21, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

While there has been explosive growth in the areas of augmented (AR) and virtual (VR) reality-based education, a recent review of the field showed that most research has failed to clearly articulate their underlying theoretical and pedagogical models, how the VR/AR environments support the model, and how to effectively assess learning outcomes. In response, with a focus on these three key factors, the posters within this interactive session present work at the leading edge of VR and AR based-education, and provide attendees the opportunity to experience their designs hands-on. With a focus on the pedagogical underpinnings and approaches for assessing their effectiveness, this session provides important exemplars and best practices for researchers looking to develop their own AR/VR interventions.
