South Asians in/and America: Engaging Solidarities, Specificities, and Intersections in Educational Research in Troubled Times

Abstract

South Asians and South Asian Americans (SA/SAA) represent a diasporic population, whose experiences can be traced as an enactment of local, national, and global structures of oppression. By mapping these structures of oppression, one could disrupt the anatomy of multiple privileges enacted in educational research training and praxis, teacher education, and pedagogy, while engaging in border crossing ontoepistemologies. In accordance with AERA’s theme, presenters of this symposium enact South Asian historiographies through examination of forms of oppression both within and outside the U.S., anti/nationalist discourses and critical capacity building, eco (in)justices, disability, solidarity building between various oppressed communities and engage in radical imagination of ontoepistemologies, methodologies, curriculum and pedagogies that reject the limited/dehumanized construction of knowledge, people, environment, and interconnectedness.
