Session Type: Symposium
Based on an analysis of a year of manuscript reviews from a flagship mathematics education research journal, this session will examine four important issues for successfully publishing journal articles: the formulation of research questions, the construction of theoretical frameworks, the choice of methods, and the interpretation of findings. The session will include four paper presentations, each addressing one issue by characterizing reviewers’ concerns for manuscripts that were rejected, received revise and resubmit decisions, or were accepted. To our knowledge, this is the only empirical examination of how to publish in peer-reviewed mathematics education research journals. The session will be chaired by an editor of a major research journal; the discussant will be an editor of another major research journal.
