Toward Intersectional Collectivity in Critical Whiteness Studies

Abstract
This symposium takes seriously the demand that white people must share the burden of racism differently and that people of color need and deserve space to survive within oppressive structures and institutions. The papers’ authors draw on various critical feminisms and critical race perspectives in their loving critiques of CWS work that has been done primarily by and for white scholars and students. Likewise, each paper demonstrates refusal to be eclipsed by whiteness reasserting itself. As the call for proposals suggests, naming the crevices in CWS brings about tensions across identity categories and institutional affiliation. We aim to nudge CWS into broader, more critical spaces within and beyond the U.S., and with radical honesty around the complexities therein.
