The Anthropocene, Capitalocene, and Educational Leadership for the Emerging Future

Abstract

Researchers from diverse disciplines will explore the importance of addressing unidentified cultural assumptions within and among the complex—and contentious—spaces in educational leadership where critical theory addressing the anthropocene includes both social and environmental justice scholarship with(in) the contexts of research, teaching, and service. The participants will share how they are working to (re)imagine an educational leadership that is responsive, and responsible, to the demands of a socially just and ecologically sustainable future. The dialogue will address the intersections of capitalism, anthropocentrism, and the challenges of bringing radical scholar-activism into educational leadership programs. Furthermore, the panel participants will invite AERA attending participants to share their experiences with working critically through these tensions, possibilities, and ethical responsibilities in educational leadership.
