Session Type: Symposium
The first objective of this symposium is to make a case for why and how colleges and universities can better reach their full promise by weaving SEL into the fabric of campus environments, in and outside of classrooms, to foster inclusive excellence, equity, well-being, and the complex skills needed for democratic citizenship (Finley, 2016). The second objective is to discuss both key challenges and bright possibilities regarding efforts to operationalize and systemically advance SEL, equity, and civic engagement in higher education. We present papers that look at emerging research, practices, and assessment approaches for advancing in varied higher education domains. Our symposium aims to engage the audience in a meaningful discussion based on research presentations and generated question prompts.
