How Reading Researchers Can Collaborate Beyond the Academy to Promote the Common Good: The Case of the Curious Dyslexia Debate

Abstract

In this symposium, four literacy scholars from different backgrounds, theoretical orientations, and experience will discuss the perils and potential of communicating the challenges, issues, and evidence related to dyslexia remediations and advocating for comprehensive approaches to the remediation of reading difficulties to broader audiences. They will describe their successes and frustrations, and together with attendees consider what scholars might achieve if they were more proactive in advocating for the public good.
