Session Summary

Empowering and Supporting Young Men of Color Through the Pre-K–20 Pipeline

Mon, April 20, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This interdisciplinary symposium aims to extend research on African American and Latino males throughout the P-20 educational pipeline. Using various methodological approaches (ethnography, interviews and observations), the authors explore the experiences of African American and Latinos males across different educational context. The papers in this session push our understanding about how school and community spaces can shape educational opportunity for students and the different stakeholders who can empower them. The authors also ask the audience to consider the different spaces that young men of color occupy and the purpose that they can serve towards empowering young men of color.
