Abstract

Paulo Freire recognized that history is possibility and that we must engage as humans in the world. It is through a collective praxis in community and in communion – understanding the experiences of oppression as they are mirrored to us in the lives of others – that we come to see; building solidarity with others that we become emboldened and courageous; and in support of others whom we love that we come to be willing to risk. This session includes three presentations that engage the question, How we cultivate our humanity in ways that help us become empowered to stand up to the demons that exist in this world and within ourselves? How do we cultivate communities that nurture our humanity?
