The papers on this international panel performatively explicate what we are calling sound pedagogies: polyphonic possibilities for studying knowledges in action. We adopt sound pedagogies so as to ‘listen in detail’ to knowledge formation and mobilization in education settings, making space for disruption, criticality, and the auditory-reception of the silenced. We understand sound pedagogies as enacted attunements of what, and how, we know. They are the kinds of knowledges that comprise ecologies—affective, material compositions upon which we render our understandings of the world. Sound pedagogies are endlessly entangled: resonating and reverberating, amplified and dampened. This panel approaches sound pedagogies from a variety of fields and perspectives drawing from the fields of education, sound studies, and emerging qualitative methodologies.
