Session Type: Symposium
The objective of this symposium is to provide an opportunity for panelists and attendees to discuss the various ways racially minoritized faculty of color enter, navigate, and advance in the professoriate. With a backdrop that institutions of higher education tout commitments to recruitment and retention, panelists share empirical and theoretical scholarship about persisting challenges and barriers to success. Specifically, panelists will present studies about: (1) equity minded faculty recruitment and retention efforts; (2) perceptions of collegiality; (3) authenticity within the tenure and promotion process; and (4) a critical race analysis of tenure denial lawsuits. After the presentations, audience members will be invited to share thoughts and ideas that support equitable processes for hiring and retaining racially minoritized faculty of color.
