Session Summary

Humanizing Praxis: Enacting Restorative, Transformative, and Healing Pedagogies

Mon, April 20, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

AERA’s theme, The Power and Possibilities for the Public Good When Researchers and Organizational Stakeholders Collaborate, calls on educational researchers to actively engage with organizational stakeholders to create possibilities of connectivity, collaboration, and problem solving. This symposium, through an explicit focus on structural and interpersonal harm and the possibilities of collective and personal healing, does that by bringing together a diverse group of researcher-practitioners from the Los Angeles, California area. The geographic context is significant as California has allocated funding for training educators in Restorative Justice to address historic inequities in marginalized communities, with Los Angeles Unified School District developing a program. Our research points to new directions in the training of educators and the importance of maintaining such programs.
