Abstract

The four studies presented in this session focus on teachers’ and leaders’ enactment of curriculum leadership in early childhood education (ECE) settings and they represent a rare and emerging effort in Singapore’s educational research landscape which has typically examined primary and secondary school practices. ECE in Singapore is a highly privatised and historically neglected segment of the nation’s education system. With services being uneven in quality and fee structure, more needs to be done to provide children with quality experiences in ECE settings to support diverse learners’ long-term development and dispositions (e.g., Sylva et al, 2011). Quality provision, however, is highly dependent on educators’ image of the child, professional ethics and agency as curriculum leaders.
