International Perspectives on School Improvement: Sharing Innovation, Borrowing Policy

Abstract

The 2020 AERA Division H symposium will showcase three international examples of boundary crossing across countries, from national to regional contexts, and from research to classrooms. Researchers from universities in Hong Kong, Auckland, Umeå, Cambridge, and London will discuss how the spread of innovations such as educational technology and assessment for learning affects and is affected by existing educational practices, beliefs, and values in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Collectively, these cases underline the importance of understanding the flow of ideas and practices across boundaries and the need to integrate cultural and contextual awareness in sharing and borrowing innovations and policies.
