These studies in various ways, explore the role of identity in teaching and learning history. Two studies by teachers are concerned with their students’ settled assumptions about historical change, and the impact on historical understanding. In the other two studies teachers confront their own assumptions around race and ability and explore in detailed and grounded ways the challenges and opportunities of implementing diversity responsiveness training .
