Division K Dialogue. Teacher Education Research for the Public Good(s): Tensions, Possibilities, and Connections

Abstract

In our complex socio-political environment, teaching and teacher education are expected to serve multiple public goods. These include equity, efficiency, civic participation, competency, and social mobility. Yet, these goods remain in tension. The panel brings together leading researchers from diverse theoretical, methodological and ideological perspectives to engage in a critical dialogue about if and how we can build a knowledge base for teacher education which can serve these public goods. Panelists will address the following questions: 1) What are the public aims of teacher education? 2) How can teacher education research serve those aims? 3) How can we engage stakeholders in and with teacher education research to serve those aims?
