Students as Activists: Making the World Better, One Grad Student at a Time

Abstract

College students have been the driving force of political movements for generations past and present. Student activism has continued to rise given some of the many challenges facing underserved and marginalized communities. Students are faced with advocating for their communities while also balancing academics, family, and their busy personal lives. Moreover, social media movements and hashtag activism continues to rise with unknown effects on future potential academic careers for students. This panel will talk about how students can advocate using their voices as well as their scholarship. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions about how panelists balance activism and their academic careers.
