In the last ten years, LGBTQ people in the United States, particularly in education, have gained an increase in visibility and civil rights (Renn, 2017). The percentage of American adults identifying at LGBT increased to 4.5% (Gallup, 2017) while approximately 8% of all American high school students report identifying as LGBTQ (Schlanger, 2017). However, there remains a lack of scholarship investigating LGBTQ issues and a lack of inclusivity of LGBTQ identities into academic spaces. This expert panel will discuss their approaches to working with LGBTQ communities. They will discuss how graduate students can positively influence their own teaching, research, and professional spaces by increasing their own understanding and knowledge. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask panelists about their academic, administration, and graduate schoolwork as well as other questions.
