Through large-scale descriptive survey research (N = 742) of United States kindergarten through Grade 12 art education, we converged upon “the Now” of US K-12 art education, looking broadly at the multiplicity of educational approaches that might characterize the field today. This research confirms we are in a period of plurality, albeit more defined by visual and material culture and multicultural education. The range of ways in which our ten surveyed educational approaches can exhibit theoretically and in practice, raise a number of vital questions. We recommend any future sketches of curricular Nows explore these nuances--delving deeper into how each of these curricular movements is conceptualized and enacted in K-12 art education practice.
