Principal Leadership Effect on Teaching Does It Matter?

Thu, April 8, 4:00 to 5:00pm EDT (4:00 to 5:00pm EDT), Division H, Division H - Section 4 Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

Research has shown that the development of teaching expertise needs both external support and self-directed practice. Principal leadership is considered an important external influence related to teaching. Survey data on key variables were collected on 1,123 teachers in 41 schools. A theoretical path model was tested for direct and indirect effects of several key variables. Is providing instruction guidance and monitoring, providing instruction conditions, and professional agency mediated by Principal leadership? Findings supported Principal’s leadership effect on teaching.
