What “What We Know” Does—A Posthuman Review Methodology

Mon, April 12, 9:30 to 11:00am EDT (9:30 to 11:00am EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Foucault and Contemporary Theory in Education Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

This paper unfolds a diffractive review-methodology for unfolding ‘ex-tensions’, understood as co-existing incompatible statements, within knowledge-fields, whilst simultaneously addressing the knowledge-politics of “what we know”, through the prism of reviews. The paper departs from a relational ontology (Barad, 2007), and unfolds an analytical strategy for selecting, reading and analysing publications that enact themselves a part of the same knowledge-field. In drawing on empirical insights from a recent review of publications on pedagogues competencies in schools, following a reform of the Danish primary and lower secondary school, the diffractive review includes both research and non-research publications as a way to address the knowledge-politics of “what we know” in educational practice and policy.
