In this study, we “follow the data” that was shared with two high schools based on a longitudinal study of students’ social-emotional learning needs. In following the data through each school, we aim to understand how SEL data are disseminated and how educators make decisions based on those data. Drawing on Coburn and Turner’s framework for research on data use, we highlight how organizational conditions supported or constrained data use, and conclude with implications for practice and research.
