Abstract

This study is an evaluation of a teacher training program that consists of induction, mentoring, professional development, graduate coursework and community living to prepare teachers to be effective educators in urban Catholic schools. Analysis of longitudinal data measuring students’ and teachers’ self-reported levels of faith, religiosity and grit; as well as, students’ scores on NWEA’s MAP assessment were conducted and comparisons between program and non-program teachers and their students were examined. When comparing teacher responses, we found differences in faith, religiosity and grit items across teachers and their students. We also found differences across students in faith items as well as MAP scores.
