The use of an integrated case-based analysis in a narrative form is more widely recognized than the potential of a visual display to serve as basis for case-based analysis and cross-case comparison in mixed method research. The purpose of this paper is to explore examples of visual displays in the form of diagrams, figures or tables that were used as the basis for case-based analysis in a mixed method study. It is also to build an argument for the role that they can serve in developing and/or elaborating analytical and conceptual insight. What the examples have in common is that the visual was instrumental to advancing analytical insight by providing a way to engage qualitative and quantitative data iteratively and dialectically.
