Abstract

In this study, we examined two factors (number of training sessions and teaching scenarios) contributing to effective teaching training in a computer-based virtual reality learning environment. 6431 event logs from 33 teaching assistants in the STEM disciplines were coded and analyzed with ordinal logistic regression statistics. The results suggested that the virtual reality learning environment was designed appropriately to support graduate assistants teaching training. Specifically, the factors of number of training sessions and simulated teaching scenarios significantly predicted the outcome variable of voluntary and appropriate teaching acts. The findings of this study reveal factors contributing to the effectiveness of graduate teaching assistants’ teaching training in a virtual reality learning environment. Implications for design and implementation are discussed.
