This study examines the leadership characteristics and challenges of school principals who work within the franchise model framework. This model consists of a successful flagship school principal who is also the principal of other nearby schools. Participants included three principals, 14 assistant principals, and 42 teachers. Data analysis revealed three essential characteristics by franchise model principals to be successful in their roles: (1) seasoned, successful principals with experience leading low-performing schools; (2) challenge the status quo; (3) shared leadership; and (4) visionary leadership to align all franchise campuses. Challenges included: (1) low teacher morale; (2) time management; and (3) alignment of franchise schools. The introduction of this model deserves recognition and continued research into its effectiveness in improving schools.
