Feedback is commonly used as a tool in many teacher induction programs in Chinese vocational schools. Whether novice teachers use feedback to adapt their teaching depends on their appraisal of feedback. Yet how novice teachers appraise expert feedback remains unclear. The authors interviewed 12 novice vocational school teachers about their appraisal of expert feedback they had received during an induction program. After coding the interview transcriptions, novice teachers’ appraisal was divided into 12 categories and 4 domains. The frequencies of these 12 categories indicated that novice teachers mostly focused on their own expertise and students’ characteristics when evaluate expert feedback. The findings provide better understanding of novice teachers’ needs and suggestions for teacher induction programs.
