Employing a multiple case study approach, the current study investigated how multimedia activities can be integrated into early literacy curricula to support young bilingual learners’ literacy development and critical thinking skills. As part of a larger project, this particular study focused on the literacy curricula in two lower grade classrooms from a charter school within a southwestern cross-border metropolitan area in the US. Extensive qualitative data were collected through multiple sources. Analysis of findings showed that the multimedia-enriched curriculum helped generate a comfortable and enjoyable learning environment where the children could explore literacy in deeper and more meaningful ways. The finding suggests the potential of integrating music-themed multimedia into early biliteracy curriculum to help facilitate students’ critical thinking skills.
