Mon, April 12, 9:30 to 11:00am EDT (9:30 to 11:00am EDT), Division C, Division C - Section 1d: Science Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

One of the priorities of democratic societies is enhancing citizens’ ability to understand scientific knowledge and apply it to everyday life situations. This research intends to study the transferability of Dialogic Scientific Gatherings (DSG) in the promotion of science learning among primary school children from a culturally diverse school located in a low socioeconomic neighbourhood in Spain. DSGs are one of the Successful Educational Actions identified by the EU FP6 INCLUD-ED project and have been successfully implemented with adults. Based on Communicative Methodology, this research has collected data through semi-structured interviews and communicative observations of the DSGs. The results suggest the transferability of DSGs and its impact on the promotion of science learning.
