Assessing the Needs of STEM Education Using a School/University Collaborative Research Model

Thu, April 8, 4:00 to 5:00pm EDT (4:00 to 5:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-School/University Collaborative Research Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

To improve STEM resources in rural Georgia, our team is engaged in school/university collaborative research through a Research-Practice Partnership (RPP). This paper presents initial findings from our needs assessment, which is currently in progress and will be complete by April 2021. Our needs assessment is a four-phase exploratory sequential mixed methods study (Creswell & Plano-Clark, 2017). We find that parents have confidence in their students' teachers, but that teachers are in need of more professional development opportunities.
