The teacher residency model is a viable option for educator preparation programs seeking to engage and prepare their pre-service educators in real-world classroom experiences. This session will describe one such program, specifically focusing on its implementation and essential components of the residents’ experiences. Lessons learned through three consecutive resident cohorts and next steps will be explored as participants consider how to effectively recruit and prepare future educators to become teachers of record in their own classrooms. Components of an effective residency program will be discussed alongside the program’s goal of developing educators that are prepared pedagogically and are culturally competent.
