Abstract

This paper examines the influence of social support on instructional coaches’ job performance. The research tested a mediated model of social support effects on coaches’ job performance through self-efficacy and work engagement. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling were used to analyze survey data collected from 542 teaching and research officers (a type of instructional coach in mainland China) in 20 teaching and research institutions in four Chinese provinces. The results affirmed the efficacy of a partial mediation model with social support, self-efficacy, and work engagement on the job performance of teaching and research officers. This study was a contributor to the motivational process of the Job Demands-Resources Model and call for attention on the coaches’ psychological capital.
