Over the past decades, phonological awareness assessment methods and instruments have gone through a significant evolution. Computer-delivered tests started to appear opening up new opportunities. Integrating the new medium into the testing process seems to offer multiple benefits compared to traditional face-to-face and paper-and-pencil methods. However, studies on the feasibility, structure and results of online assessments are scarce. The objective of this study is to explore the possibilities for the technology-based assessment of phonological awareness and to contribute to the development of a reliable and valid online instrument. Results suggest that we managed to develop a valid, reliable and easy-to-use online phonological awareness test that can easily be used in elementary school classroom settings.
