High stakes tests require a thorough analysis to ensure test items are working as intended. This study draws on Rasch measurement to examine the psychometric properties of a second language (L2) listening test used in the context of Canadian immigration. The results provide evidence of data - model fit, item - person targeting, the distribution of L2 listening subskills along a unidimensional latent space and measurement invariance across gender. The discussion calls for a collaboration of key stakeholders, which can greatly inform the use of language measures in immigration grounds.
