An Exploratory Study on Educational Responsibility to Achieve Better Campus Sexual Safety for Female Students

Thu, April 8, 2:00 to 3:00pm EDT (2:00 to 3:00pm EDT), Division J, Division J - Section 6 Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

A large body of literature shows that sexual assault incidents are ubiquitous in institutions of higher education (IHE), to which female students are more commonly exposed. There are various harms of sexual assault, including physical, psychological, behavioural, academic effects to victims (Gidycz et al., 2008; Vladutiu et al., 2011). This phenomenon calls for better campus sexual safety in IHEs to help with female students’ struggles regarding sexual assault and support their equivalent rights for academic success. This study is a literature review aiming to explore educational responsibilities in aspects of sexual assault prevention policies and educational programs for female students.
