Spotlight on Antiblackness: A Critical Literature Review of Expanded Learning Opportunity Leadership Practice

Sat, April 10, 2:30 to 4:00pm EDT (2:30 to 4:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Out-of-School Time Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

The AERA 2021 meeting’s theme is educational responsibility, which is a recognition of ways schooling broadly is complicit in reifying educational inequity. This literature review aligns to the call by reexamining the ways ELO leadership practice and configurations are complicit in racial inequity through upholding anti-blackness. The ELO field in recent years has become more cognizant about addressing racial inequity. However, there remains a need to become more intentional in every aspect of ELO leadership; which will require the development of new theories and practices that have the potential to center sustaining the culture of minoritized youth.
